About the initiative

The Future We Want, The UN We Need – Essay and Drawing Competition

To mark the 75th anniversary of the UN, the United Nations in Sudan is launching a country-wide essay and drawing contests for basic and secondary school students on the theme “The Future We Want, The UN We Need.

The winning entries will be announced in mid-December, and the winners will be invited to a special event, together with UN senior officials. Selected essays and drawings will be posted on UN Sudan social media platforms.

Theme of the essay and drawing contests:

“The Future We Want; The UN We Need”

Requirements:

1) Essay Competition:

  1. Write an essay on “The Future We Want” providing answers to the following two questions:
  • What are your hopes and fears for the future?
  • What action is needed from the UN to build the future we want?
  1. The contest is open to all basic and secondary school students in Sudan;
  2. The length of the essay should be between 250-400 words;
  3. Essays may be submitted either in Arabic or English;
  4. Each participant can submit ONE entry only;
  5. Write a UNIQUE essay! Your essay must be an original work and must not infringe the rights of any other party;
  6. Meet the deadline! Submit your entry between 24 October and 3 December 2020 via e-mail message to unic.sd@undp.org; and
  7. Don't forget to provide your contact information!

2) Drawing Competition:

  1. Submit a drawing that depicts “The Future We Want”;
  2. The contest is open to all primary and secondary school students in Sudan;
  3. You can use any medium of your choice. It could be regular pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, crayons, sketch pens, oil pastels, watercolours…etc. The drawing can be done on any paper and you can also use a canvas;
  4. submit a scanned image or a good quality picture of your drawing along with all the relevant details such as title, size and a brief description via e-mail message to unic.sd@undp.org artwork between 24 October 2020 and 3 December 2020;
  5. Each participant can submit ONE entry only;
  6. Submissions must be original content created by the contestant and must not infringe the rights of any other party; and
  7. Don't forget to provide your contact information!

For both categories (essay and drawing), use "The Future We Want, The UN We Need – Essay and Drawing Competition" as a title of your e-mail message. Write your name, age and school in the body of your email.

Results:

  • The winning entries will be selected by a high-level panel.
  • Winners will be announced on mid-December 2020.
  • Winning entries will be published on UN Sudan official web page and shared on our social media pages; and
  • Winners will be given awards at an event with UN senior officials.
